CARBOMER 940

INCI Name: Carbomer
Common Name: Carbomer 940 / Carbopol-type 940 polymer
Chemical Type: Crosslinked polyacrylic acid polymer
CAS No.: commonly listed as 9003-01-4 for polyacrylic acid; use your supplier’s COA/SDS value on the final listing
Appearance: White, fluffy/hygroscopic powder
Solubility/Dispersion: Dispersible in water; develops high viscosity after appropriate neutralization
Function: Thickener • Gelling Agent • Rheology Modifier • Suspension Aid • Emulsion Stabilizer

Important technical note: Carbomer 940 is a crosslinked polymer, not a single small molecule. Therefore, do not show a fixed molecular formula, fixed molecular weight, or a simple molecular structure as if it were a pure low-molecular-weight chemical.

Benefits & Functions

Carbomer 940 is used to produce high-viscosity aqueous systems at relatively low concentrations. After proper dispersion and neutralization, it can form smooth gels, increase formulation body, improve suspension of dispersed materials and support emulsion stability.

Applications

Facial Gel • Serum Gel • Moisturizer • Face Cream • Body Cream • Lotion • Hand Gel • Hair Gel • Personal Care • Cosmetic Gel Formulations

Storage

Store tightly sealed in a cool, dry location. Protect from moisture, excessive heat and contamination. Follow the specific supplier SDS/TDS and COA requirements.
